Indian Steel and Mines Minister Prafula Kumar Malik said on July 26 that Odisha will build at least 12 new steel plants with a total annual capacity of 60 million tons. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) plans to build a steel plant with an annual capacity of 24 million tons, while JSW Steel plans to build a steel plant with an annual capacity of 12 million tons. There are currently 51 steel mills in Odisha with a total annual production capacity of 33.12 million tonnes. When the construction project for the new plants will start has not been determined, but the minister said three steel plants will be built in Sundargarh district, two in Jajpur and one each in Angul, Kendrapara and Dhenkanal. The locations of the factories in Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur areas have not yet been determined.
